Raised by his mother and grandparents, Fernando is on his way to UC Irvine, where he will study math. An accomplished swimmer and water polo player, Fernando wins the prize for the most unique response when asked about his career aspirations: “I’d like to be an actuary,” he says. With a strong interest in math, science and environmental issues, Fernando is well-suited for a profession that calculates the likelihood of future events.
