The NAC knows students need exposure to cultural and social experiences outside of their immediate community to navigate their future college setting. To prepare our students, the NAC provides discussion panels, workshops, and year-round field trips that increase their awareness of cultural differences and social networking.
NAC students participate in discussions about issues that shape their community and the world. Topics have included the civil rights movement, challenges faced by first generation immigrant students and many others.
Students also visit cultural centers across Southern California, such as the California Science Center, the California African American Museum, the Museum of Tolerance, and the Getty Center. NAC students also attend performing arts from musicals and plays to symphonies. Past examples include the Fiddler on the Roof, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Mary Poppins musicals and performances by the Pacific Symphony.
During the school breaks, NAC students tour local college campuses like USC, UC Irvine, CSUF, and SOKA University. Our summer events have included trips to Angels baseball games and BBQ’s in the park.
